An ultrasonic cleaner is used to clean spectacles, optical instruments, and delicate components such as lenses and frames. It operates by generating high-frequency sound waves in a liquid solution, creating microscopic bubbles that effectively remove dirt, oils, and debris without causing damage.

Uses in Optometry:

1. Cleaning Spectacles & Frames – Removes fingerprints, dust, and grime from lenses and frame crevices.
2. Disinfecting Optical Tools – Used to clean small instruments like screwdrivers, tweezers, and nose pad pliers.
3. Lens Cleaning – Ideal for deep cleaning of spectacle and contact lenses (when approved by the manufacturer).
4. Removing Residue – Eliminates residues from polishing compounds used in lens edging and finishing.
5. Hygiene & Maintenance – Ensures optical equipment remains free from contaminants, improving patient safety.

The ultrasonic cleaner is commonly used with Gigasept AF solution to enhance the removal of oils and organic residues from surgical instruments. It’s particularly beneficial for delicate optical components as it provides a thorough yet non-abrasive cleaning method.
